s over open networks.
T-Shell was launched in the presence of the Guest of Honour, Mr. Foo Jong Ai, CEO of Singapore-based Netrust Pte Ltd, a leading Digital ID service provider in South East Asia.
Today most Unix servers are accessed using Telnet, which allows remote access to Unix servers but without any form of security. Given the proliferation of network-based transactions, all communications in the network should be secure. The existing Telnet model has the vulnerability in that information is exchanged on networks in a manner that potentially allows an intruder to gain unauthorized access to information being exchanged. This information could be credit card numbers, bank statements, company confidential information and health records.
Odyssey’s T-Shell uses the secure shell protocol and Digital Certificates to provide authentication and confidentiality for secure exchange of information between clients and Unix servers.
Customers who currently use Telnet to access terminal based applications on Unix servers will benefit by using T-Shell. T-Shell uses encrypted passwords for authentication and protects against IP spoofing using both user and host-based authentication with Digital Certificates. T-Shell uses time-tested encryption methods and protects against a single point of compromise on open networks. Customers in Banking, Finance, Manufacturing and Telecom Industries as well as Government can leverage T-Shell to securely exchange information in a client/server environment and protect their investments made in Unix-based systems.
Mr. Robert Raja, CMD of Odyssey Technologies Ltd., said, “Odyssey is committed to providing standards compliant, vendor independent PKI-based security solutions. T-Shell will ensure secure and trusted communication on open networks in a client/server environment. Network based transactions on the Internet or Intranet are vulnerable to unauthorized access and compromise; authentication and confidentiality are important components for secure and trusted communication. With T-Shell, customers can be confident that only authentic users and systems can communicate and the information exchanged is secure and confidentiality is ensured.”
T-Shell will be available on all leading Unix platforms and will be sold and supported through a network of global partners.
In Asia, T-Shell will be sold by Netrust Pte Ltd as a ‘Netrust-ready’ product. Customers will be able to use Netrust Digital Certificates along with T-Shell to provide authentication for communication across entities on open networks.
Odyssey and Netrust have a strategic partnership to offer PKI-based Internet Security and Trust solutions for e-businesses. Odyssey-Netrust would offer end-to-end security solutions including professional services for PKI enabling e-commerce applications and Internet Security Training.
Mr Foo Jong Ai, CEO of Netrust Pte Ltd, said: “While the legal and technical aspects of PKI are currently being studied by various regional and global interest groups to facilitate cross-boundary activities, the lack of real-life PKI applications is still hindering PKI from its complete take-off. As PKI is well poised to be the growth engine of the IT security sector, Odyssey is indeed in a unique market position and has a niche role to play in this field globally. Netrust is extremely pleased to be Odyssey’s strategic partner in jointly developing this market.”

About Netrust
A joint venture between Keppel Telecommunications & Transportation Ltd and Network for Electronic Transfer (Singapore) Pte Ltd (NETS), Netrust is the pioneer and leading Certification Authority in Singapore for government organisations, enterprises and individuals to conduct trusted and secure electronic commerce and communication over the Internet.
Netrust is authorised to issue public key certificates (similar to a passport concept) used to identify users over the Internet. Besides verifying the identities of the parties involved and protecting their interests, Netrust maintains the integrity of users' messages while ensuring transacting parties will not be able to repudiate their actions.
Netrust's Public Key Infrastructure provides the security assurance to enable e-commerce sessions in a trusted environment without the risk of fraudulent identities among the transacting parties.
