Strategic alliance with Entrust.net expands certificate-based solutions to secure electronic and
mobile commerce
Netrust Pte Ltd, a leading Digital ID Service Provider in Southeast Asia, today announced the launch of Netrust Web and WAP (Wireless Application Protocol) digital certificate services.
Netrust will bring these digital certificates to the Southeast Asian market under the Entrust.net Global Affiliate Programme, expanding its suite of Public Key Infrastructure-based trust solutions.
Web and WAP digital certificates serve as electronic credentials to authenticate parties and enable encrypted communications and transactions over the Internet and wireless networks.
For e-commerce, Netrust Web certificates provide robust 128-bit security based on the ‘public/private key’ encryption model. What makes the technology attractive is that
it makes use of the SSL (Secure Socket Layer) protocol, which is currently supported in the world’s most popular browsers - Netscape Navigator and Microsoft Internet Explorer.
Netrust also takes the lead in building the same degree of confidence and security in the mobile wireless environment with its Netrust WAP service. Netrust WAP certificates enable Wireless Transport Layer Security (WTLS), the security layer in the WAP architecture. WTLS provides an interface for managing secure connections over wireless networks.
The launch of these digital certificate services means that Netrust customers now have a comprehensive suite of products required for the deployment of secure e-commerce.
Netrust offers enterprises, government organisations and consumers transacting over the Internet a high degree of security for the transfer of confidential information such as credit card numbers, online forms and sensitive financial details.
Said Mr Foo Jong Ai, CEO of Netrust, "For e-commerce and mobile commerce to take off, we must boost business customers’ confidence that these new channels are as safe as "face-to-face" exchanges in brick-and-mortar merchant locations."
"Netrust aims to provide our business customers with a scalable, 24/7 trust infrastructure by continuing to develop strategic partnerships with security technology leaders. Through this expansion of our relationship with Entrust Technologies, we are able to provide our customers with a cost-effective trust infrastructure."
"With Netrust offering the certificates, our customers are assured of premier local technical support and a fast turnaround time for processing of certificate applications."
Entrust looks to leverage Netrust’s leadership position in trust services in the Southeast Asian market through preferred co-marketing and promotional activities.
Said Dennis Heathcote, Vice President, Entrust.net, "This relationship with Netrust reinforces Entrust.net’s global reach and will assist us in further penetrating the Asian markets given Netrust’s in-depth local knowledge and skills in managing large-scale Net security projects for major corporate clients."
Today’s launch expands Netrust’s suite of trusted solutions beyond its public-key infrastructure (PKI) offerings that include secure corporate e-mail, desktop security, and network and intranet access.
Entrust Technologies recently announced that Netrust is appointed to distribute its PKI solutions in the Southeast Asia region.

About Netrust
Netrust is the pioneer and leading Certification Authority in Singapore for government organisations, enterprises and individuals to conduct trusted and secure electronic commerce and communications over the Internet.
Netrust is authorised to issue public key certificates (similar to a passport concept) used to identify users over the Internet. In the passport analogy, Netrust acts like a Passport Office which verifies the user's identification, creates a trusted document which certifies the users and then issues the relevant document to the user.
Besides verifying the identities of the parties involved and protecting their
interests, Netrust maintains the integrity of users' messages while ensuring
transacting parties will not be able to repudiate their actions.
Netrust Public Key Infrastructure provides the security assurance to enable e-commerce sessions in a trusted environment without the risk of fraudulent identities among the transacting parties.
Netrust is a joint venture between Keppel Telecommunications &
Transportation Ltd and Network for Electronic Transfers (Singapore) Pte Ltd
