Netrust
Pte Ltd announced on Friday the launch of its WAP newsletter. Organisational
newsletters are typically sent via email or in the printed form. The launch
of Netrust's WAP newsletter is a first of its kind n Asia (based on Internet
searches as at 14 January 2000, conducted on well known WAP search engines e.g.
wapmap.com, www.gixom.com, www.wapwarp.com etc).
The premier issue of the Netrust
WAP Newsletter at "www.netrust.net/index.wml"
enables users to access Internet information using the Wireless application
Protocol via enhanced user interface in handheld wireless devices like mobile
phones, palm held devices, pagers etc.
"This is just Netrust's first step
into the world of mobile e-commerce. The possibilities of where this can lead
to are immense. We are now actively seeking potential partnerships
and collaborations in this area," said Mr Yuen Ka Wei, General Manager of
Netrust.
The contents of the Netrust WAP
Newsletter are based on the organisation's online newsletter: -"Netrust-News"
(currently sent fortnightly via email to a circulation of more than 8000 readers).
Published since June 1998, Netrust-News provides readers with news and articles
about digital certificates, digital signatures, keys, e-commerce, cyber-laws
and issues and more.
"WML is well on its way to become
the HTML of the near future. Much like when there was just a few thousand Web
sites in the world, we are at a genesis point where the Netrust WAP newsletter
is among the first thousand registered WAP sites with the WAP forum." said Mr
Tea Vui Huang, the developer of the Netrust WAP Newsletter.
About Netrust's WAP Ready Newsletter:
The Netrust WAP Newsletter is based on Wireless Markup Language (WML) 1.1 Approved
Specification. WML is a hypertext markup language (like HTML) used to represent
information for delivery to a narrowband device, e.g. a WAP hand phone.
Insider Tips:
|
- The newsletter is contained
in a single WML page;
- Each article is a 'card',
minimising multiple downloads;
- It has a bandwidth-optimised,
black-and-white Netrust logo in WBMP (Wireless BitMaP) format as detailed
in WAP, Wireless Application Environment Specification Version 1.1.
(As currently specified, WBMP provides for 2 colours (black and white
and no compression). This is designed with the limitations of mobile
computing devices in mind: small download size, LCD screens, and minimal
processing power.
